ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage police say speed and icy roads likely were factors in a fatal one-car crash.
Police say a man died at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when his sport utility vehicle crashed into a light pole on the Old Richardson Highway near Tudor Road.
The man's name was not immediately released. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rain falling on already icy roads created hazardous driving conditions.
Police closed northbound lanes after the crash. They reopened at 6:30 a.m.
Rain turned to snow later Wednesday.
