ROME (AP) _ The bodies of two Italian aid workers have been found in a guarded compound in the Afghan capital of Kabul, the Italian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

No signs of violence were found on the bodies and it was not clear how the two had died, the ministry said.

The bodies of the volunteers, identified as Iendi Iannelli and Stefano Siringo, would be flown back to Italy in the next few days, the ministry said. The cause of death would be investigated.

The Italian news agency ANSA said the two could have died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a defective stove in the compound.

Iannelli worked for an international program trying to develop Afghanistan's judicial system, while Siringo was employed by the Italian Foreign Ministry.
