President Obama's Hawaii vacation: Day 10
Dec. 30, 2014
KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii (AP) — How President Barack Obama spent the 10th day of his family's holiday vacation in Hawaii on Monday:
— BACK TO THE GYM: After taking the weekend off, Obama returned to the gym at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay on a cloudy morning. As the presidential motorcade returned to the family's rental home in Kailua, a man standing on a street held two signs. The first read: "Happy Holidays President Obama, Mrs. Obama, Malia, Sasha, Bo & Sunny!" The second read: "All I want for Christmas is your autograph please."
— HIT THE BEACH: Later in the morning, the Obama family went to the beach with friends, the White House said. The beach at Bellows Air Force Station in Waimanalo has been the family's preferred beach during this vacation. As the motorcade left Bellows, about 40 beachgoers waved and took cellphone videos.
— ON THE GREEN: From the beach, the president split from his family for a round of golf at Mid-Pacific Country Club in Kailua. His golfing partners were the familiar trio of Bobby Titcomb, Greg Orme and Mike Ramos. The group finished with the sun setting behind the Koolau Mountains.
At the 18th green, the president — wearing a black golf shirt, blue shorts and a beige hat — took three practice swings before hitting a low chip shot from about 10 feet in front of the green to inside of a foot of the hole. As he walked to his ball he said to a gathered crowd of about 40 people: "Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year."
