Wall Street Stocks Open Higher
Dec. 08, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices have opened higher. The Dow Jones industrial average is up 80 points in today's early going. Advancing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold an eight-to-five lead over decliners.
The Nasdaq composite index is ahead 122 points and the S&P 500 Stock Index is up 15 points.
Wall Street is managing to look past some bad news from high-tech bellwether Intel to post its early gains.
Intel warned of flat revenues, surprising few analysts, given a recent downturn in the personal computer market.
Instead, stocks have opened broadly higher with new economic data adding to the argument that the Fed could move further away from its interest-rate-tightening phase.
And the looming likelihood of an end to the presidential election drama is seen as a positive for the market, which tends to dislike any sort of uncertainty.
