Oct. 04, 1985
WASHINGTON (AP) _ The American Telephone & Telegraph Co. said Friday it will ask the Federal Communications Commission to approve its purchase of GTE Spacenet's satellite earth station at Triunfo Pass, Calif., for $2.5 million.
The two companies have operated the facility jointly since 1976.
AT&T also seeks to lease GTE's Sunset Beach, Hawaii, dish for 14 months starting Nov. 1 and start a 17-month lease of the GTE facility at Homosassa, Fla., on the same day.
The earth stations will be used to beam long-distance and international phone calls to AT&T's Telstar satellites.
