SEATTLE (AP) — Police arrested a 25-year-old suburban Seattle man and seized his AR-15 rifle after he allegedly sent a series of escalating messages to pastors at a Seattle church.

The Seattle Police Department said Thursday the man from Covington was arrested on a charge of felony harassment.

Police say the man had attended the unnamed church in the University District neighborhood but staff had not heard from him since he threatened to burn down the church over a year ago. Police say the threat came after church members urged the man to seek medical treatment.

In October, police say the man began sending emails to the church threatening to kill people there and posting a photo on Facebook of the rifle and ammunition magazines with a threatening note.

Church staff contacted police, who arrested the man and seized the gun.
