Ex-Merchant Marine Academy carpenter sentenced in bribe case
Nov. 17, 2017
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A former supervisory carpenter at the United States Merchant Marine Academy has been sentenced to nine months in prison for receiving bribes.
Frank DeCarlo pleaded guilty in April to illegally steering maintenance and repair contracts to favored contractors.
His sentence Friday in federal court on Long Island also requires him to pay a $10,000 fine and forfeit $48,000.
Court records show that between 2003 and 2016, the 67-year-old DeCarlo solicited and submitted fake bids on contracts he supervised.
