Louise Comte, Leading Stage Actress, Dead at 72

PARIS (AP) _ Louise Comte, whose career as one of France's most accomplished stage actresses included roles in ``Les Miserables'' and ``Port Royal,'' has died at age 72, the Comedie Francaise said Monday.
Ms. Comte died Oct. 19 in a hospital in Chateau-Thierry, in northern France, No cause of death was given.
She was best known for her roles in Henry de Montherlant's ``Port Royal'' and ``Le Cardinal d'Espagne,'' but her repertoire included Corneillian heroines and Fantine in Victor Hugo's ``Les Miserables.'' She most recently appeared in ``The Mad Woman of Chaillot'' by Jean Giraudoux.
Ms. Comte studied under Georges Le Roy at the Paris Conservatory and graduated with top honors in 1943, earning a coveted spot at the Comedie Francaise. She retired in 1969 and became honorary secretary of the Comedie Francaise in 1970.
