Armed Man Takes 6-Year-Old Hostage
May. 19, 1986
CHICAGO (AP) _ A man armed with a rifle took a 6-year-old hostage Sunday on the city's Northwest Side, prompting police to set up a negotiating command post and barricade the street, police said.
The incident, said Chicago police officer George Andrikokus, apparently stemmed from a domestic disturbance.
Andrikokus said police got a call at about 9:30 p.m. - from either the man's girlfriend or his mother - saying the man had barricaded himself with the child.
It was not clear whether the hostage was a boy or a girl, Andrikokus said, or whether the man and child were related.
Andrikokus said no shots had been fired.
