Dec. 05, 1999
WASHINGTON _ Kristeena Alexander scored all 18 of her points in the second half and Marlo Egleston added 16 points as George Washington upset No. 7 Rutgers 63-58 Saturday night.
The Colonials (3-2) won despite going 18 1/2 minutes without a basket in the first half. Alexander scored five points during a 13-2 run midway through the second half that erased a 30-26 Rutgers lead.
Shawnetta Stewart scored 12 points for Rutgers (3-2), which had won three straight games.
Egleston hit consecutive 3-pointers as GW took an 11-2 lead, but the Colonials missed their next 19 shots from the field and finished the half 3-for-23.
Rutgers controlled the boards, but struggled to take advantage of GW's cold shooting and held only a 23-19 lead at halftime.
Alexander's steal and layup gave GW a 32-30 lead with 14:56 left in the game, and her two free throws with 5:11 remaining gave the Colonials their largest lead at 49-37.
Rutgers rallied behind Tasha Pointer, who scored 10 of her 15 points in the final 3:35. But the Scarlet Knights got no closer than 51-48 on Linda Miles' foul shot with 3:13 left.
