Ohio Man Sentenced in Car Bombing
Oct. 24, 1997
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) _ A man got 16 years in prison Friday for a car bombing that maimed his wife.
Charles Lister, 36, had pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated murder and aggravated arson in the attack April 8.
The bomb, planted under the driver's seat of Linda Lister's car exploded minutes after she left work. The car burst into flames, and she jumped out. She lost part of her leg and had to undergo several operations.
Police never gave a motive but noted that Lister was his wife's beneficiary on insurance policies.
Lister could have gotten 20 years.
Mrs. Lister, 36, told Judge Judith Ann Lanzinger that her husband had ruined her life and ``probably never even loved me.''
