MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Cal Ripken moved within two hits of the 3,000-hit mark Saturday night when he singled in the fourth inning at the Metrodome.

Ripken sent a 2-2 pitch from Minnesota Twins right-hander Sean Bergman to right field in the Baltimore fourth.

Ripken is trying to become the 24th player to collect 3,000 hits, but he's been in a slump.

He entered the season nine hits shy of the mark but was just 6-for-34 (.176) going into Saturday's game. He grounded out in his first time up.
