TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) _ Marco Whitfield came off the bench to score a career-high 20 points Wednesday to lead Alabama past Florida 68-65.
Whitfield, starting for suspended senior Marvin Orange, scored eight points in the final five minutes, including two clutch jump shots, to kill a late Florida rally.
Alabama (11-6, 5-4 Southeastern Conference) led 37-23 at the half, but Florida (9-9, 4-4) went on a 9-2 run to whittle the lead to 48-42 with 10:32 left. Alabama pushed the lead back to nine, 53-44, on a jumper by Whitfield.
Florida's Greg Stolt led the Gators' comeback, hitting three treys and a field goal in the game's last nine minutes. Florida grabbed a 59-57 lead on a Stolt 3-pointer with 2:35 left, but Alabama regained control for good on a Brian Williams' 3-pointer with 2:08 left.
Roy Rogers scored 16 for Alabama, including 10 straight points in the first half.
Dametri Hill led Florida with 14 points. LeRon Williams had 13 while Eddie Shannon and Stolt each scored 11.
Alabama coach David Hobbs suspended Orange indefinitely for breaking team rules.
