PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man who was warned by a judge that he could have spent the rest of his life in prison has been sentenced to longer than a year in jail on multiple charges in an accidental shooting.
Twenty-one-year-old Tahj McCormick had previously acknowledged the struggle that led to the August non-fatal shooting in Pittsfield of 33-year-old Shane Brennan.
The Berkshire Eagle reports he pleaded guilty to charges of heroin and cocaine possession, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and other offenses.
He has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.
McCormick originally was charged with armed assault to murder, but that charge was reduced after an investigation found the shooting occurred as a result of the struggle over the weapon.
