WASHINGTON (AP) _ Its tax forms may be longer than ever, but the Internal Revenue Service is shortening its World Wide Web site address.

Taxpayers can now reach the site on the Internet by typing www.irs.gov. The old address _ www.irs.ustreas.gov _ still works, but the change provides a version simpler and easier to remember.

The site, which has had almost 2 billion hits since January 1996, offers tax forms and publications, news about IRS restructuring and operations, lists of tax-exempt organizations, alerts to tax problems and a calculator for people to figure out an installment plan for unpaid tax bills.
