DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) _ Police fired tear gas Wednesday after a student protest over higher admission fees turned violent. At least 25 people were injured.
Police moved into the Dhaka University campus to prevent about 400 demonstrators from overrunning the office of the vice chancellor. Some students who smashed vehicles passing through the campus in downtown Dhaka were beaten up, and four demonstrators were arrested.
A coalition of 11 student organizations called a strike to protest a 300 percent increase in the admission fee. The students said they were too poor to pay the $70 fee.
