PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Brian Rafalski scored with 8.6 seconds remaining in overtime Saturday to lead the New Jersey Devils over the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1.
Pittsburgh is winless in five games (0-3-1-1) with two games remaining before the Olympic break. The Penguins dropped five points behind New Jersey, which is tied for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.
Rafalski got the winning goal when he one-timed a pass from Bobby Holik past Johan Hedberg's blocker from 15 feet.
New Jersey trailed 1-0 at 11:47 of the third when Holik scored the tying goal. He won a faceoff against Randy Robitaille, then went to the net and deflected Rafalski's shot in. Hedberg had stopped 33 shots to that point.
Aleksey Morozov got Pittsburgh's goal at 6:43 of the third. Morozov followed his own rebound and put a backhand shot past Martin Brodeur, just under the crossbar.
In 22 career games against New Jersey, Morozov has 11 goals and 23 points. He has seven goals and 18 points in his last 12 games against the Devils.
Hedberg was spectacular in the first two periods. The Penguins were outshot 28-8 in the first 40 minutes.
