HONOLULU (AP) _ Alika Smith scored 22 points as Hawaii pulled off its biggest upset ever, taking the championship game of the Rainbow Classic.
Eric Ambrozich had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Rainbows (10-1) and Anthony Carter had 17 points and seven assists.
Hawaii, using a 1-2-2 zone defense, held the Jayhawks (16-2) to their lowest point total of the season _ 22 under their average _ limiting them to an 11-of-30 shooting effort.
Carter, the tournament MVP, had 19 points in the second half and Smith had 14. The Rainbows picked up their shooting over the final 20 minutes after going from 10-of-34 (29 percent) in the first half.
Paul Pierce led the Jayhawks with 22 points.
