15 Tourists Hurt in Jamaica Crash

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) _ A trailer carrying tourists on a visit to a banana plantation overturned Wednesday in northeastern Jamaica, injuring 15 people, most of them Americans.

Six of the tourists had serious injuries. All were passengers on Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas cruise ship, which was docked in the resort town of Ocho Rios on a cruise out of Miami, authorities said.

Most of the injured were from the United States, but two were Swiss and one Canadian, they ssaid. The Jamaican driver and a tour guide were also slightly injured. No hometowns were released.

Edwards said 25 passengers were aboard a trailer being pulled by a tractor when the vehicle picked up speed as it went down a hill and the driver lost control.

Ten of the injured were taken to University Hospital in Kingston, six by helicopter, he said. Hospital officials would not disclose their conditions, but Pickersgill said some were to be flown to Miami for further treatment.
