Girl, Nanny Found Dead in Manila
MANILA, Philippines (AP) _ Police arrested a family driver after a 5-year-old girl and her nanny were found dead, stuffed in the ceiling of his house, police said Thursday.
The driver, Monico Santos, failed to return home with Eunice Kaye Chuang and her nanny, Bibet Montecino, from the girl’s school Tuesday, alarming the girl’s mother, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force said.
On Wednesday, members of the Chuang family found Santos at his house in Malolos in northern Bulacan province. He claimed kidnappers blocked his car and seized him, the girl and the nanny and then abandoned him in suburban Quezon City. He said he did not report the abduction because the kidnappers threatened to kill him, police said.
Members of the task force, who became suspicious because of inconsistencies in his statements, searched his house and found the two victims dead in the ceiling, police said.
Investigators said the girl and the nanny appeared to have died of suffocation and heatstroke and had been dead for hours when they were found.
Santos will be charged with kidnapping and murder, a capital offense, police said.
