Ice Cube Had Doubts About Film

April 5, 1998

NEW YORK (AP) _ Ice Cube isn’t always cool.

Writing and directing his first film ``The Players Club″ made the rapper-actor question himself.

``You have doubts about yourself when you’ve never been to school and you see people who’ve done it and they’ve been to school,″ he says in Sunday’s Daily News. ``I don’t know anybody who just winged it. It’s just like, man, going into uncharted waters. You don’t know if you’re cut out for it or not, and it challenges all of your ability.″

``The Players Club″ looks at the world of strip clubs through the eyes of a single mother who dances on weekends to put herself through college.

``Everybody knows what goes on onstage,″ Ice Cube said. ``I wanted to give up the game on what goes on behind the stage.″

Ice Cube was a member of the rap group N.W.A. before moving on to star in films, including ``Boyz N the Hood,″ ``Higher Learning″ and ``Anaconda.″
