LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting his son to death over a barbecue grill.

WACH-TV reports a Lexington County jury convicted 58-year-old Heirberone Heava Foster late Thursday of murder and multiple other charges after a week-long trial. Foster was accused of killing 24-year-old Will Foster in his front yard in Gaston on May 10, 2016.

Several witnesses testified the argument was long over when Foster went inside the house and came out with a pump-action shotgun. Foster then approached his son, aimed the shotgun and shot him in the chest. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Foster was apprehended after trying to flee.

Senior Assistant Solicitor Rhonda W. Patterson described the incident as “a senseless killing that has torn a family apart.”
