January 24, 2003

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Ke-Ke Tardy scored a season-high 16 points, and sixth-ranked LSU recovered from its first loss of the season to beat struggling Florida 94-54 Thursday night.

The Tigers (16-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) fell to eighth-ranked Arkansas 82-72 on Sunday, but needed little time to get back to its winning form, putting Florida away with a 24-3 run midway through the first half.

The Gators (8-9, 0-5) continued one of the worst stretches in school history, losing for the fifth consecutive time. The last four defeats have come by at least 39 points.

The Tigers took the lead for good early in the game when Aiysha Smith faked an outside shot and drove straight down the lane for a layup and an 11-9 lead.

LSU led 47-22 at halftime on the strength on 61-percent shooting, and extended the advantage to as many as 42 points in the second half.

Tardy scored 12 straight points in a span beginning at the end of the first half and stretching into the second. Her previous season high was 11.

Florida was unable to guard the Tigers inside, giving up repeated point-blank shots off easy post-entry passes. LSU connected on 58 percent of its shots.

Smith had 15 points and reserve Roneeka Hodges added 12 for LSU.

Bernice Mosby led Florida with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Dalila Eshe added 11 points.
