Quaker Valley, Shady Side Academy to meet for 3rd straight season in boys soccer final

Corner kicks: The Indians and Quakers are making their third straight appearance against each other in the WPIAL championship game. Last season, Navid scored a goal on a bicycle kick with less than a minute left in regulation to tie the game then scored the game-winner in the second overtime to give SSA its first WPIAL title. Max Farner scored in the 48th minute off an assist from Navid to lead Shady Side Academy to a 1-0 win over Deer Lakes in the semifinals Monday. Bruce David made eight saves, and Zach Conti made three for the Indians. Navid scored twice in a 3-2 win over North Catholic in the first round. ... Quaker Valley beat the Indians, 2-1, to win the 2016 title. The Quakers are riding an 18-game winning streak after starting 0-3. Reiter has scored 19 goals this season. The Quakers have rolled through the postseason so far, posting wins over Freeport, 6-1, Mt. Pleasant, 4-1, and Charleroi, 5-0. The Quakers are chasing their ninth title, winning in 1985, ’91, ’92, ’93, ’96, ‘99, 2012 and ’16.
Coming up: The winning team will play the District 5 or 8 champion, while the loser will play the District 6 champion in the PIAA tournament Tuesday at a time and site to be determined.
