Wash. Woman Arrested in Husband’s Death
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) _ Authorities investigating the shooting of a man found dead in a car trunk have arrested his wife and teenage stepson.
The woman was arrested Tuesday shortly after investigators searched her Puyallup home, said Pierce County sheriff’s Detective Ed Troyer. Her 19-year-old son from a previous marriage also was jailed in connection with Randall Ferguson’s death.
Ferguson, 45, was found Friday evening in the trunk of his 1990 Dodge Intrepid, which had been driven or pushed over an embankment south of Gig Harbor, about 8 miles northwest of Tacoma, authorities said. The Boeing Co. machinist had been shot repeatedly in the head, according to the medical examiner’s office.
``We believe she shot him in the house, then loaded him in the trunk with the help of the 19-year-old son,″ Troyer said. ``We believe she had been arguing with him over a child, then went outside to a vehicle, got a weapon, returned to the house and shot him.″
About an hour before her arrest, the 39-year-old woman had told the Tacoma News Tribune that her husband had stormed out of the house during a quarrel two days before his body was found. She said she filed a missing person report the following day when he hadn’t returned or called her.
``I just can’t imagine living life without him,″ she told the newspaper, which didn’t publish her name because she hadn’t been charged with a crime. ``I have no idea what’s going on.″
The couple had been married nearly five years. Their 4-year-old daughter has been placed in the care of relatives.
