BRITNEY SPEARS GETS TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST FORMER CONFIDANTE
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Britney Spears has gotten some court assistance in dealing with a former confidante who has had legal scraps with her and her family for a decade now. She has been granted a temporary restraining order against Sam Lutfi. The order requires him to stay at least 200 yards from the singer, her parents and her two sons, aged 12 and 13. The keep-away order also bars Lutfi from contacting or disparaging any of the Spears clan. In January, Spears put her career on hold so she could focus on her ailing dad. In court documents supporting the restraining order, Spears’ reps say Lutfi’s actions “have caused severe mental trauma” for the singer a time when she can ill-afford it.

Clooney says he understands the fascination with all things royal in Britain. But he calls on the media to “be a little kinder” and remember that despite being famous, Meghan is still “a young woman who just had a baby.”

ROYAL COUPLE NAMES BABY, TROTS CHILD OUT TO MEET MEDIA
LONDON (AP) — Chances are, you don’t know many young people with the name Archie _ except maybe the red-haired comic book character from Riverdale High School. But you can expect going forward that there will be more kids named Archie around, now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have slapped the name on their first child. Archie has its roots in German _ and has meanings like “genuine,” “bold” and “brave.” Only time will tell if the royal baby will live up to those qualities. For now, Meghan describes the baby as “really calm” and says he has “the sweetest temperament.”

BBC DJ FIRED AFTER “RACIST” ROYAL BABY TWEET
LONDON (AP) _ A BBC radio broadcaster has been fired after using a picture of a chimpanzee in a tweet about the royal baby born to Meghan the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry. Danny Baker tweeted Thursday that he has been fired after posting an image of a couple holding hands with a chimpanzee dressed in clothes and the caption: “Royal baby leaves hospital.” The tweet was seen as a racist reference to baby Archie’s racial heritage. His grandmother Doria Ragland is African American. Baker, 61, said the posting had been meant as a gag, tweeting late Wednesday that it was “supposed to be (a) joke about royals vs circus animals in posh clothes but interpreted as about monkeys & race.” The post has since been deleted.
R. KELLY - COURTROOM RESPITE
CHICAGO (AP) — Looks like R. Kelly won’t have to worry about spending today in a Chicago courthouse _ after doing double duty there yesterday. The disgraced R&B star faced two hearings, one over a civil lawsuit and the other on back child support. He was ordered to pay $62,000 in back child support, avoiding more prison time in the process. In the other matter, Kelly had a default judgment against him reversed. A judge agreed with a defense claim that Kelly failed to reply because he was served while in custody and, being illiterate, didn’t have anyone around to read the subpoena for him.

BAN IT LIKE BACKHAM, PHONE COSTS SOCCER STAR RIGHT TO DRIVE
LONDON (AP) — David Beckham has been banned from driving for six months for using a mobile phone while behind the wheel of his Bentley. A prosecutor said a member of the public spotted the former Manchester United and England soccer star holding a phone while driving through central London on Nov. 21. Beckham’s lawyer said his client had “no recollection” of the incident but pleaded guilty. Beckham already had six penalty points on his drivers’ license for speeding offenses. The six additional points he received for the cellphone put him at the 12 points needed to lose driving privileges.

JAMES CAMERON SALUTES ‘ENDGAME’ FOR SINKING ‘TITANIC’ RECORD
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Filmmaker James Cameron has no bad blood with the Avengers, even though “Endgame” has eclipsed “Titanic’s” worldwide record and bumped the 1997 blockbuster to third place. Cameron tweeted a note Wednesday to Marvel president Kevin Feige and its employees congratulating the company for its success. Cameron writes that an iceberg sank the real Titanic, but it took the Avengers to sink his “Titanic.” The accompanying image shows the Titanic crashing into a massive Avengers logo. The studio, he says, has shown that the movie industry is alive and well and bigger than ever. But “Avengers: Endgame” still has another Cameron film to conquer to get to the top. “Avatar” remains the highest-grossing film of all time with $2.8 billion worldwide, not accounting for inflation. “Avengers: Endgame” has earned $2.3 billion.
