Dashcam video shows Toledo police officer fatally shooting man described by authorities as armed robbery suspect

TOLEDO, Ohio - A Toledo police officer on Friday fatally shot a man authorities described as an armed “person of interest” in multiple city robberies.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Lamar Richardson of Toledo.

Police Chief George Kral showed the unedited dashcam footage of the shooting Friday night. He and Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz warned that the video is disturbing.

Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in East Toledo and said officers identified Richardson as the driver. Officers lost the car after a pursuit and later saw Richardson on a bicycle. They initiated the stop in the North Toledo area of Lagrange and Hudson Streets, where officers said the man fled on foot. Authorities say he was armed and they recovered a 9mm firearm on the scene.

Both SWAT officers seen in the video have been put on administrative leave. No officers were injured.

The Friday night shooting is the second officer-involved shooting in Toledo within a week. Officer Jonathan Chio shot and killed a man on July 21 behind a South Toledo Dollar General after police say he robbed the Heatherdowns Boulevard store and stabbed two people, killing one.

Update: Officer-Involved shooting investigation is ongoing & will take time. We will provide updates as we get them. The person shot is 25 years of age, not a juvenile. He did have a firearm.
