The Crimson tide went into halftime tied 10-10 but scored 27 points in the third quarter, including two touchdowns in a 12-second span for a 50-17 win. Tua Tagovailoa (tag-oh-vay-LOH’-ah) passed for 340 yards and three touchdowns, completing 18 of 22 passes in three quarters.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Ninth-ranked Ohio State had to go beyond the fourth quarter and into overtime to avoid a major upset at the hands of Maryland. Ohio State claimed the 52-51 victory when the Terrapins failed to convert a 2-point conversion after the potential game-tying touchdown. Ohio State (10-1, 7-1 Big Ten, No. 10 CFP) trailed by two touchdowns in the third quarter and 45-38 with under two minutes left before rallying to a pivotal victory.
NEW YORK (AP) — Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey left the Orange’s game against No. 3 Notre Dame in the first quarter with a possible back injury. Redshirt freshman Tommy DeVito replaced Dungey and started the second half for 12th-ranked Syracuse.
UNDATED (AP) — In afternoon action in the National Hockey League Saturday, Anthony Cirelli scored 1:47 into overtime, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-5. Tampa Bay blew a 5-1 lead before claiming the victory. In Newaark, Dylan Larkin scored 4:09 into overtime, Jonathan Bernier stopped 38 shots and the Detroit Red Wings beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2. It was Detroit’s fifth victory in its last six games.
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros have acquired infielder Aledmys Diaz (ah-LEHD’-meez DEE’-ahz) from the Toronto Blue Jays for minor league pitcher Trent Thornton. The trade was announced by both teams Saturday. The 28-year-old Diaz hit .263 with 26 doubles and a career-high 18 home runs in 130 games with the Blue Jays. Thornton is a 25-year-old right-hander who went 9-8 with a 4.42 ERA in 24 games at Triple-A Fresno last season.
