Purdue 80, Wichita St. 78 OT

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Todd Mitchell scored 20 points, including four in overtime, as 11th-ranked Purdue rallied past Wichita State 80-78 Thursday night in college basketball.

Mitchell scored early in overtime and made two free throws with 2:27 left to give Purdue, 3-1, an 80-76 lead.

Lew Hill’s 15-foot baseline jumper brought Wichita State, 1-1, within two points with 44 seconds remaining. The Shockers had a chance to tie the score after regaining possession following a turnover, but Dwight Praylow’s 12-foot jumper fell short as time ran out.

Wichita State led 74-66 with 4:38 left in regulation. But the Shockers’ turnovers allowed the Boilermakers to score eight straight points and tie the game.

Purdue’s Everette Stephens blocked Joe Griffin’s jumper with 42 seconds remaining. After being fouled by Wichita’s Paul Guffrovich, Tony Jones missed the front end of a 1-1 opportunity with 24 seconds remaining in regulation.

Mitchell’s first overtime basket gave the Boilermakers their first lead of the game since early in the first half.

Kip Jones led Purdue with 21 points, Troy Lewis had 13 and Stephens added 11. Wichita State was led by Sasha Radunovich with 15 points, while Hill and Griffin had 13.

The loss broke a 15-game home court winning streak for Wichita State.
