France Telecom Joins General Magic Alliance
Undated (AP) _ France Telecom, the French telecommunications company, said Tuesday that it will join a number of high-tech companies in the General Magic Inc. alliance.
General Magic, which is seeking to set the standard for wireless personal communication, develops software that uses ″intelligent agents.″ These electronic navigators scan complex on-line networks for information on behalf of computer users.
France Telecom operates the French on-line service which supplies about seven million personal computers with news, train schedules, ticket reservation systems, electronic telephone listings and other features.
Other companies which hold a stake in Cupertino, Calif.-based General Magic include: AT&T, Apple Computer Inc., Motorola Inc., Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Philips NV, Sony Corp., Nippon Telephone and Telegraph Corp., Fijitsu Ltd. and Toshiba Corp.
