Oakland A’s Re-Sign Gil Heredia
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Right-hander Gil Heredia, who had been eligible for salary arbitration, agreed to a $2.35 million, two-year contract with the Oakland Athletics.
Heredia went 13-8 with a 4.81 ERA in 33 starts last season while pitching 200 1-3 innings. He had 117 strikeouts and just 34 walks.
Heredia, who made $450,000 this year, gets $2.1 million next season under the deal announced Tuesday. The A’s have a $3.3 million option for 2001 with a $250,000 buyout.
His signing leaves right-handers Jimmy Haynes, Jason Isringhausen and Ariel Prieto, infielder Scott Spiezio and outfielder Rich Becker eligible for arbitration.
The A’s also said Tuesday they have signed nine players to minor-league contracts.
Right-handers Frank Lankford, Jon Ratliff and Jeff Tam, left-handers Will Brunson, Terry Burrows and Rich Sauveur, catcher Chris Norton and outfielders Greg Martinez and David McCarty were assigned to the A’s new Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats.
All nine also will be non-roster invitees to spring training, along with left-handers Mark Mulder and Barry Zito and right-hander Denny Wagner.
