Woman Who Fed Homeless Is Killed
BALTIMORE (AP) _ A man acquitted of killing his grandmother, who was struck in the head with a hammer, has been charged with killing a woman known for feeding the homeless by hitting her in the head with frying pans.
James Connell Robinson is being held without bail on first-degree murder and robbery charges in Tuesday’s death of 56-year-old Evelyn Krebs.
Police say Krebs, whose body was found on her living room floor by her daughter, had been hit in the head. Two cracked cast-iron frying pans were found near her body.
Her death angered her neighbors, who remembered her a kindly woman who took pity on the less fortunate.
``She felt sorry for them, so she’d feed them,″ said neighbor Jody Walston, who had warned her about inviting people into her home. ``She didn’t have much money. She was on welfare. She always had food, though.″
In June 1989, Robinson was charged with killing his 70-year-old grandmother, Helen Taylor. A jury acquitted Robinson in November 1989.
Police cited robbery as a motive in the latest killing.
