Three Injured as Gunman In Car Fires Into Crowd At School

March 19, 1989

ATLANTA (AP) _ A gunman in a car fired a shotgun into a crowd leaving a school talent show, wounding three people, authorities said.

The three victims, an adult and two teen-agers, were reported in stable condition in area hospitals Saturday. They were hit in the back, hand or legs.

″It was nothing but a drive-by, nothing but deranged teen-agers,″ said Sylvester Carey, a chaperone. ″You can’t try to do anything nice for these kids, because someone will try to ruin it.″

The shooting at Southwest Middle School occurred Friday night as about 500 people, mostly children, were leaving the school’s talent show.

Police said they were looking for two cars that had been seen in the area recently.
