RICHMOND,Va. (AP) _ Doug Kirchner’s 36-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter Saturday lifted Richmond to a 10-7 victory over Bucknell in the season opener for both teams.

The Spiders started at Bucknell’s 27 after a fumble recovery by Harold Hill. Three running plays moved the Spiders to the 19, and Kirchner connected with 7:41 remaining.

The Bisons blocked two punts in the first half, giving them 17 blocks in 56 games under coach Tom Gadd. After the second blocked punt, the Bisons started at the Richmond 23 and took a 7-0 lead on Jason Marrow’s 9-yard run with 1:34 remaining in the first half.

The Spiders tied the game with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter on a 58-yard run by quarterback Sean Gustus.

The Spiders outgained the Bisons 296-129 and held Bucknell to 33 yards rushing. Gustus led the Spiders with 88 yards rushing.
