Cincinnati Player Charged With Rape
CINCINNATI (AP) _ University of Cincinnati football player DeMarco McCleskey was arrested today on a rape charge and suspended from the team.
The 18-year-old freshman is accused of attacking a 19-year-old woman. She told police she was asleep in her campus dorm early Sunday when McCleskey entered the room and raped her.
Cincinnati athletes charged with violent crimes are suspended, and they are dismissed if convicted, athletic department spokesman Tom Hathaway said.
McCleskey, a running back from Claremore, Okla., led the Bearcats in rushing and scoring last season.
