Elyria police arrest 2 after break-in at Northwood Junior High School

ELYRIA, Ohio — Police say two people have confessed after they were arrested in connection with the break-in of a school on Thanksgiving Day.

Randy Messer Jr., 46, of Elyria, and Michelle Slagle, 46, are being held in the Lorain County Jail, each facing a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering.

According to police, the suspects broke a window to gain entry into Northwood Junior High School on Gulf Road. Police used security video to identify the two suspects.

Messer surrendered for arrest Tuesday after being contacted by police. He told investigators he was trying to take money from vending machines in the school, police say. He also told police he was involved in break-ins earlier this month at Elyria Roll Arena and Discount Drug Mart. Additional charges are expected connection with those incidents.

Slagle was arrested in the jail on Tuesday.

Police say the two suspects were stealing money to support a drug habit.
