Indiana 2, Cal State Fullerton 1
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ Cal State Fullerton deflected a goal into its own net and Caleb Porter scored for Indiana on Sunday as the Hoosiers beat the Titans 2-1 to advance to the NCAA soccer Final Four.
Indiana (22-2) will play UCLA, a 3-2 winner over College of Charleston, in the semifinals Friday in Davidson, N.C.
After a scoreless first half, Indiana scored in the 52nd minute when Jeff Bannister’s cross deflected off Titan defender Peter Lak into the net.
The Hoosiers pushed the lead to 2-0 about 12 minutes later. Porter scored from five yards off a pass from Craig Ginsberg.
Cal State Fullerton (14-7-2) got its goal in the 67th minute when Martin Palos connected from eight yards.
The Hoosiers will make their 10th Final Four appearance, their first since 1991.
″We were expected to make it to the Final Four, so there was a lot of pressure on us to make it,″ Indiana coach Jerry Yeagley said. ″I’m really happy for this group of seniors. They made it as freshman, and they hadn’t been back since.″
Indiana won national championships in 1982, 1983 and 1988.
