BOSTON (AP) — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is coming to Massachusetts to help Republican Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez.

Giuliani will campaign with Gomez on Thursday afternoon, according to Gomez spokesman Will Ritter. They plan to visit the marathon bombing memorial in Copley Square as part of a tour of Boston's Back Bay.

Gomez has worked to distance himself from the national GOP. Giuliani, a former Republican presidential candidate, is well known for his role after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City.

Republican Sen. John McCain campaigned with Gomez late last month.

First Lady Michelle Obama visited Massachusetts last week for Democrat Ed Markey. President Barack Obama is scheduled to appear in the state next week.

The special election to replace former Sen. John Kerry is on June 25.
