The third day of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut passes through southwest Connecticut on Friday.
The run began Wednesday in Old Lyme, Ledyard and Putnam. On Thursday there were five legs of the runs that included routes of North Branford to Hartford, Willimantic to Hartford, Enfield to Glastonbury, Plymouth to Hartford and Naugatuck to Hartford.
Volunteers in law enforcement and civilians from around the state will be torchbearers as they pass the Special Olympics ‘Flame of Hope’ from town to town before it reaches its final destination at Southern Connecticut State University during the opening ceremonies of Special Olympics Connecticut’s Summer Games at SCSU’s Jess Dow Field on Friday.
Officers will run the “Final Leg” of the Law Enforcement Torch Run into Opening Ceremonies that will officially kick off Summer Games weekend, and a celebration of Special Olympics Connecticut’s 50th anniversary.
In some communities and during the Final Leg, Special Olympics athletes will join in the Run.

Leg 9 New Milford to Bethany
Starts at 7:33 a.m. at New Milford Town Hall.
Continues through Brookfield, Danbury, Bethel, Newtown, Southbury, Oxford, Seymour and ends in Bethany at 5 p.m. at the Troop I State Police barracks.
Leg 9A Ridgefield to Wilton
Starts at 9 a.m. at Dimitiri’s Diner on Prospect Street in Wilton.
Continues into Wilton and ends at 10:13 a.m. at Wilton Town Hall.
Leg 9B Monroe to New Haven
Starts at 11 a.m. at the Monroe Police Department.
Continues into Trumbull, Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, Woodbridge to New Haven where the run ends at 5:20 p.m.
Leg 10 Greenwich to New Haven
Most of this route is on Route 1.
Expect traffic delays along Route 1 as the run proceeds through the towns.
Starts at 8 a.m. at the Greenwich Library.
Continues into Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Stratford, Milford, Orange, West Haven to New Haven where the run ends at Fitch and Dyer streets at 5:12 p.m.
