BEDFORD, Pa. (AP) _ Six people were killed early Monday when their van crossed a center divider on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and plowed into a tractor-trailer.
A seventh person in the van was in critical condition, and the truck driver was hospitalized with ``moderate injuries,″ state police Cpl. John Cypress said.
The van was traveling westbound on the turnpike 84 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The driver lost control, hit the divider, and then crossed an emergency opening into the eastbound lane, Cypress said.
Three people were thrown from the van as it collided with the truck and burst into flames, he said.
The victims’ identities were not released.
