Witness list emerges in trial of ex-senator’s extortion case
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The potential witness list in the case against a former state senator charged with sex extortion includes two former chiefs of staff for the Senate president.
Nicholas Kettle was indicted in February on charges that he extorted sex from a male page in 2011 when Kettle was a freshman Republican lawmaker. WPRI-TV reports that the page is expected to testify if the case goes to trial.
The potential witness list also includes Thomas Coderre, who served as then-Democratic Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed’s chief of staff, as well as his successor, Thomas Papa.
Kettle’s attorney was unavailable for comment.
The former senator also faces charges he took explicit photos of a former girlfriend and then shared them without her permission. Kettle sought to dismiss some of those charges last week.
