Jon R. Fisher

SULLIVAN -- Jon R. Fisher, 85, of Sullivan, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1933, in Watertown, to Claude and Mabel (Schlesner) Fisher. Jon graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 1950. He entered the United States Army following graduation and served until 1955. He married Joy Hiller on Jan. 14, 1964, in Johnson Creek. He owned and operated the Fishers Grocery Store in Johnson Creek for 12 years, as well as Fisher’s Hardware Store. Jon also worked for Weis Excavating. He was a member of the Johnson Creek Fire Department where he served as captain. Jon also served on the Village Board and the School Board. He was a member of the Methodist church in Johnson Creek and served on the church council. He was employed at Ace Hardware in Watertown until his retirement when he and his wife, Joy, moved to Adams Friendship for 19 years. Jon was a loving and caring husband and father; he made friends wherever he went. He was known for his kindness and compassion for others. Jon had a fantastic sense of humor. He worked hard and loved spending time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Joy Fisher of Sullivan; daughters Mary (Steve) Wappler of Sullivan, Jerri (Rob) Strauss of Helenville, Laura (Ben) Hildreth of Johnson Creek and sons Jon (Jolene) Fisher of Menomonie and David (Jennie) Fisher of Jefferson; 10 grandchildren, Matthew (Ashleigh) Wappler, Timothy (Jo’Ene) Wappler, Adam Wappler, Morgan (Dom) Baker, Taylor Strauss, Eric (Stacy) Hildreth, Abbie (Marcus) Crandall, Connor Neisius, Emily Fisher and Allison Fisher; four great-grandchildren, Noah Albrecht, Henry Wappler, Samuel Wappler, Cayson Hildreth; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Fisher in infancy and sister Claudette Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Johnson Creek on Friday with the Rev. Richard Corning presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
