Ohio woman mauled to death by dog in home

CINCINNATI, Ohio — A 42-year-old woman was killed Thursday in her home by her pet dog, which police had to kill in order to get near her body, reports say.

Della Riley, 42, was already dead by the time emergency personnel arrived, having been “viciously mauled” by the mixed-breed dog, according to WCPO Channel 9.

WLWT Channel 5 reports that Riley’s 4-year-old son had run from the home at about 1 p.m. trying to get help because Riley was having a seizure.

When medics arrived, they were unable to get near Riley because the dog was standing over her.

Medics called police and when officers went inside, the dog charged at them, reports say. The officers shot and killed the dog.

One of the bullets ricocheted and struck Riley, but the county coroner says she was already dead from the wounds from the dog attack, Fox 19 reports.

Riley’s son was not injured was turned over to child protective services. A second dog in the home was removed but reports say it was not the same breed as the dog that killed Riley.
