Coeur d’Alene Tribe member to lead sold-out basket weaving class at CDA Casino
During this workshop, a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe will guide participants through the art of basket weaving.
Basketry is often used in cultural ceremonies, giveaways, births, name-givings, first-food gatherings, weddings, funerals, memorials and other events. Many baskets tends to be decorated with intricate geometric, floral, human and animal patterns.
Elders typically teach younger generations how to weave, and though basketry is primarily made by women, many men learn how to weave too.
During the workshop, participants will create a small round root bag, also known as a “sally bag.”
