Paraguay swamps Bolivia 4-0 in WCup qualifying
ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) — Paraguay hammered Bolivia 4-0 on Friday to keep alive faint chance of World Cup qualification while ending the hopes of its rival.
Jonathan Fabbro, Roque Santa Cruz, Richard Ortiz and Gustavo Gomez scored for Paraguay, which improved to 11 points, eight short of Uruguay in the fifth and last spot to progress, with three games to play.
Paraguay cannot finish in the top four and qualify automatically for the World Cup, but has a mathematical chance of reaching fifth.
Bolivia is a point further back and cannot qualify, becoming the first South American team to be eliminated.
