South Carolina High School League extends football regular season

September 18, 2018

The South Carolina High School League voted to extend the football regular season schedule in response to the several games that had to be rescheduled because of hurricane Florence.

All games originally scheduled for Week 4 that were postponed because of evacuations and weather can be moved to Week 11 — Oct. 29-Nov. 2. The playoffs for each classification will now begin on Nov. 9 and the State championship games are now scheduled for Dec. 7 and Dec. 8.

The schedule changes only apply to football. Other fall sports will maintain the same regular season schedule.

“It goes without saying the aftermath for many of our counties is one of tremendous damage: loss of homes, vehicles and other personal properties, not to mention the schools and athletic facilities,” SCHSL Commissioner Jerome Singleton said in a statement released by the league. “Working as a team has and will always be the strongest characteristic the SCHSL membership displays year after year.”

South Aiken, Silver Bluff, Barnwell, Fox Creek, Ridge Spring-Monetta, Wagener-Salley and Williston-Elko all postponed games from Week 4 that could potentially be made up in Week 11. Aiken also postponed its Week 4 game against Lakeside (Ga.), which is already scheduled to play another game on Nov. 2.

Volleyball rescheduled

The volleyball match between South Aiken (8-3) and Aiken (10-4), originally scheduled for last week, will be played at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
