Pittsburgh Steelers star running back Le’Veon Bell has still not signed his franchise tender, according to the team, and may continue his holdout into Week 1 of the regular season.
“We are disappointed Le’Veon Bell has not signed his franchise tender and rejoined his teammates,” Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert wrote in a statement. “Coach (Mike) Tomlin and the coaching staff will continue to focus on preparing the players on our roster for our regular season opener on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.”
Bell was hit with the franchise tag last offseason, and he and the Steelers have not agreed to terms on a new long-term contract.
Bell, 26, ran for 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns last year in addition to catching 85 passes the 10th-highest mark for any player, regardless of position and two receiving touchdowns last year.
