A Newsweek poll shows Clinton’s approval rating has fallen to 54 percent, from a high of 61 percent Jan. 18, before news of the scandal broke. Now 37 percent disapprove of the way Clinton is handling his job, up from 30 percent Jan. 18.
Fifty-two percent of those surveyed said Clinton lacks the honesty and integrity they expect from a president, while 40 percent said his honesty and integrity meet their expectations.
Newsweek’s poll results are based on telephone interviews with 751 adults conducted Jan. 22-23. The overall margin of sampling error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
According to an ABC News poll released Saturday, 49 percent of people think Clinton lacks the honesty and integrity to serve as president compared with 49 percent of respondents who say he does. On Wednesday, ABC said 56 percent of respondents said Clinton had the honesty and integrity they expected in a president.
The ABC poll was conducted by telephone among 505 adults Friday night. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
