Maranatha volleyball reaches national tourney
The second-seeded Maranatha University women’s volleyball team made quick work of top-seeded Emmaus Bible College on Saturday to reach the NCCAA Division II National Tournament where the team will be playing for its fourth consecutive national championship.
The Sabercats (20-12) upended Emmaus 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 in Ankeny, Iowa to claim the North Region title.
Maranatha’s victory avenged a prior home loss to the Eagles. For Maranatha, McKenzie Janke had 20 digs and Claire Hansel finished with 11 digs and 10 kills. The Sabercats’ Kelsey Johnson tallied nine kills and 19 assists.
On Friday, Maranatha recorded a pair of victories. The Sabercats topped seventh-seeded Oak Hills Christian College 25-23, 25-18, 25-22. Maranatha then defeated third-seeded Providence University College 25-11, 25-22, 25-18 to reach the finals.
Maranatha now awaits its seeding for the national tournament which will be released this week. Nationals begin Thursday, Nov. 15 in Greenville, South Carolina.
