Teens Charged in Prosecutors Murder
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Four teen-agers charged with fatally shooting a federal prosecutor and injuring another have confessed to three robberies the same night, according to arrest warrants. Detectives say they also have linked the teens to another crime.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said investigators have two weapons from the teens and will use ballistics tests to determine whether the guns can be linked to other crimes, including two unsolved homicides.
Abram Braveboy, 18, Cichey Levar Mayo, 17, Bryan Murray, 17, and Willie James Murphy Jr., 16, were charged with murder, assault and battery with intent to kill and robbery.
Monday night, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Messer of Morton Grove, Ill., was shot in the back as he tried to run from a robber, and fellow prosecutor Richard Gillum Ferguson of Naperville, Ill., was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm.
Lott said the two the prosecutors were random targets. Police say the same teens also that night robbed an 18-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and two of her friends in her garage, and a 43-year-old woman as she opened the door of her home.
